New Sight Saving Technology - High Definition- Optical Coherence Tomograph (HD-OCT).

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in the United States - affecting about three million Americans. Unfortunately, up to 50% of people are unaware that they have the disease. Glaucoma develops without warning. Too often, treatment isn't sought until a degree of vision has deteriorated. At that point, steps may be taken to control the progression of the disease, however the vision that is noticeably impaired is lost forever.

The key to preventing vision loss is early glaucoma detection. Dr. Tsipursky is using Zeiss Cirrus © High Definition- Optical Coherence Tomograph (HD-OCT) to provide state of the art technology to diagnose and fight this blinding disease   - often before vision suffers.

High Definition-Optical Coherence Tomography (HD-OCT)

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is based on usage of a special beam or light allows to create visual image of optic nerve and measures the thickness of retinal fiber layer. Over time it allows to detect loss of optic nerve fibers in glaucoma.

OCT is also invaluable in diagnosis and treatment of diseases of retina. By creating a retinal cross section image it allows early detection of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes and other retinal diseases.

New Glaucoma Treatment - Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT).

Doctor Tsipursky is now happy to offer her patients the latest innovation in glaucoma treatment - Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). This procedure uses short pulse, low energy "cool" laser. The applications are placed directly on trabecular meshwork (the draining channels that do not function adequately in glaucoma), affect only pigmented cells stimulating the channels without burning them.
SLT is very effective in lowering the eye pressure thus preventing permanent vision loss. In many cases SLT may be as or more effective than glaucoma drops. This is painless, in office procedure associated with no systemic side effects.

Note: SLT therapy is reimbursed by Medicare and most other vision insurance providers.
